The D-U-N-S number was introduced in 1962 by the company Dun & Bradstreet and is now used in many industries to uniquely identify companies.
You can have your company displayed on Apple as the publisher of your own app. To do this, it’s necessary to uniquely identify your company using a D-U-N-S number. If you would like to be displayed as the publisher of your app yourself, you need a developer account for individuals.
To open a developer account for companies who are the publishers of the app, you first need to follow a few steps. Let us explain what you need to do.
Apply for a D-U-N-S Number
To be able to create a business developer account with Apple, you must enter a so-called D-U-N-S Number. If you don’t have one, then you’ll need to apply for it first. This nine-digit number is required to uniquely identify your company or organisation. Please note that your company is recognised as a legitimate enterprise (e.g. a public limited company or a limited liability company). Apple does not accept fictitious company names or sole proprietorships. You can apply for this D-U-N-S number free of charge on the Bisnode D&B website. Among other things, the following information is required:
Name of legal entity
Address of the head office of your company
Postal address
Contact details of your workplace
2. Receipt of the D-U-N-S Number
Please note that the application for the D-U-N-S number can take up to five working days. It may then take up to two more working days for Apple to receive this information from D&B. Once this is done, you can begin to register for the Apple Developer Program.
3. Creation of the Developer Account
You can register for the Developer Program on this site. Click on "Enroll" and you will be shown a checklist with all the required data. With "Start Your Enrollment", you will be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. You can also create an Apple ID by clicking Create Apple ID if you don’t already have one.
4. iTunes Connect and Contracts
Once you’ve created your Developer Account, all you have to do is accept a few iTunes Connect contracts and add your tax and banking information to your account.
Finished! Now you’ve completed all the necessary steps to create a business developer account and submit your app to the App Store.
Attention! Please note that Apple charges 99 US dollars per year to create a Developer Account.
